I have been pondering for a few weeks now about what to write for my very first web.log post. There is so much hype around blogging and what you say that the idea of posting has become intimidating. In my public relations class at Baldwin-Wallace College last night, the importance of blogging was stressed yet again. The professor told us your posts must be witty but simple, to the point but not short, strong but not opinionated and the list goes on. The pressure mounts and then, all of a sudden, no ideas seem suitable for blogging. Perhaps that is the reason this blog, which was created three weeks ago, has remained desolate…
Well dear reader, it is desolate no more.
I consider myself a good writer. Not because I have taken extra writing courses in college or because I do freelance pieces for local papers, because I don’t. With a 40 hour work week and an 18 credit hour semester, who has time? I say that not to sound admirable but to maybe help you understand the type of person that I am, always on the go. Anyway, I accredit my writing skills not to those things but to my passion for reading and to my obsession with words.
I will read any kind of novel if recommended. I prefer Agatha Christie, I love the words she uses and how her novels are based in the past when things were more proper and people were more regal with their speech. I also am a huge Ernest Hemingway fan. Something about the way he writes, I feel like I am there, walking the streets of Paris, on my way to meet Gertrude Stein for tea. I admire Hemingway more than any other writer. My favorite Hemingway novel is actually ‘A Moveable Feast’ which is a memoir of sorts with admitted omissions of truth. If you haven’t read it, go get it now, its fabulous!
As for words, I actually have quite an extensive ‘favorite words’ list. Not for any particular reason, I just really like the abundance of words available that help to accurately describe what you are feeling. Even words as simple as ‘allow‘ or ‘drive‘ have such a commanding meaning behind them. If you say you are ‘driven‘ or you have the ‘drive‘ to accomplish something I feel the personal urgency to accomplish the task is really expressed. I currently have 240 favorite words and am constantly adding more to that total.
To change the subject: INTENT.
With this web.log, I intend to read, write and use words, all of which are things that I love, in order to write reviews of novels. These novels will be on random books that I’ve read and found inspiration from. My goal is to obtain knowledge and advice from these novels, evaluate it, condense it and send it on to you, dear reader. So please, offer feedback, suggest novels and provide new insights. I really hope I can capture your attention and spark your interest.
I also want to do some fun things with this blog. I have recently moved out on my own (well by “on my own” I actually mean with two frisky felines (Princess man and Razzle) and a boy whose idea of relaxing is banging on his drum set that is in our basement…).
Anywho so I am on my own and now have a FULL kitchen and a CRAFT ROOM!! So, I will be incorporating my crafts, meals and some other fun things (like my obsession with nailpolish) into this blog along with reviews of the novels I read.
I really hope you like it.
Thank You, for reading.
