“The World As I See It” A Collection of Albert Einstein Essays

I am currently reading a book titled…

The World as I See It

“The World As I See It”  is a collection of essay written by Albert Einstein on everything from science to politics to letters to his friends.

The book is fantastic. I think I am going to need a new highlighter soon because I feel like I have been highlighting everything in the book so far!

Here are a few tidbits-

“I also consider that plain living is good for everybody, physically and mentally”

“A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labours of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving”

“The ordinary objects of human endeavor- properly, outward success, luxury- have always seemed to me contemptible”

From reading this, he so far seems like a simple man who was kinda bitter and hated the military and patriotism. It’s quite interesting… I must keep reading!

Crafty Crafts

This section is probably my favorite.

For the longest time I felt like there was nothing really special about me.  I didn’t have a cool hobby like dance or theater.  I wasn’t especially or naturally good at anything like painting or singing or playing guitar.  I didn’t have that one thing that I could do all by myself that I was good at that I loved, until I found crafting.

I know that probably sounds cheesy but I really mean it.  I finally found something of my own. Creating things comes naturally to me and I just recently discovered that.  I am good at it and I love it.  It’s fun and I can get lost for hours making things or coming up with new ideas.  I am inspired all of the time now by things around me.  I see items at stores or in other blogs and think I could make that or I could use that for this project.  It is really exciting for me.

So, in this section, titled “Crafty Crafts”, I am going to post How-To, photos and feedback on things that I make.  Let me know what you think, share your ideas and give me suggestions.  I am really looking forward to this!

Recipes!

In this section of my blog, categorized as “My Recipes”, I will be posting recipes with photos and step-by-step instructions. I will also include the little alterations I seem to make to basically every recipe mostly because I am missing some ingredient or don’t like what it calls for.

I love to cook and bake, it is one of my favorite hobbies but I do work and go to school full-time so my free time to cook is limited.   Hopefully I will be able to post some good ones and inspire you to make them too, with your own variations!

Let me know what you would change or what you liked, I would LOVE any tips you have to make any dishes better!

Nail Polish CoLoR oF tHe WEEEEEK!

I am obsessed with nail polish, I just love it.  I feel it adds some fun and glamour to any look. I also love how versatile it is! I feel that just by painting my nails I can express myself or some of my personality, whether I am in a fun mood, a classic mood or whatever and I love all of the seasonal colors.  In this section “Naip Polish” I will categorize my weekly nail polish colors with brand, color and a review and hopefully give you some ideas and some knowledge for your own manicures!

SO this week I decided to try the Sally Hanson Salon Effects Nail Art colors. In my opinion …

*They are hard to use and they dry out quickly so if you buy a pack, don’t do what I did and only used a few. You’ll have to throw the rest out.

*I also wouldn’t recommend putting them on every nail, it seems like it would be kind of overwhelming at least for my taste.

SO… Instead of putting it on every nail I put it on two nails, my ring finger on my left hand and my right pinky finger. It turned out really cute! Then I put OPI Sephora ‘Ocean Love Potion’ on the other fingers because I thought it complimented the flowers in the nail art well.

Here is how it turned out!… Thoughts??

My Current Jams…

I love music and, as the title of my blog lets on, I am ALWAYS listening to music.

My favorite genre of music is probably country but I love classic rock, instrumental, jazz, blues and much, much more.

In the section ‘Current Jams’ I will be posting CDs I buy, new songs I hear and love or hate, concerts I am going to or want to, music I am addicted to and other things like that.

Suggestions are ALWAYS appreciated for new artist or anything music related!

My Current Book…

I am an avid reader, I enjoy books on nearly anything.

I read books about…

  • religion
  • my heritage … Irish if you’re wondering ;)
  • self-esteem
  • social media
  • history
  • murder mysteries
  • biographies
  • autobiographies
  • beauty tips
  • relationships
  • travel

gosh, the list really does go on! HOWEVER, I must get to the point…

The section of my blog that is tagged with the catagory ‘Current Reads’ will focus on my passion for reading.  I will post about each book I read.  I will provide some insight into the content as well as a few quotes if I find some that I feel are worthwhile.  It should be fun!

Stay tuned! Hopefully I can recommend a great book that will peak your interest! And of course I am always open to new suggetions for books to read on well, anything!

The first step is always the hardest…

I have been pondering for a few weeks now about what to write for my very first web.log post.  There is so much hype around blogging and what you say that the idea of posting has become intimidating.  In my public relations class at Baldwin-Wallace College last night, the importance of blogging was stressed yet again.   The professor told us your posts must be witty but simple, to the point but not short, strong but not opinionated and the list goes on.  The pressure mounts and then, all of a sudden, no ideas seem suitable for blogging.  Perhaps that is the reason this blog, which was created three weeks ago, has remained desolate…

Well dear reader, it is desolate no more.

I consider myself a good writer.  Not because I have taken extra writing courses in college or because I do freelance pieces for local papers, because I don’t. With a 40 hour work week and an 18 credit hour semester, who has time?  I say that not to sound admirable but to maybe help you understand the type of person that I am, always on the go.  Anyway, I accredit my writing skills not to those things but to my passion for reading and to my obsession with words.

I will read any kind of novel if recommended.  I prefer Agatha Christie, I love the words she uses and how her novels are based in the past when things were more proper and people were more regal with their speech.  I also am a huge Ernest Hemingway fan.  Something about the way he writes, I feel like I am there, walking the streets of Paris, on my way to meet Gertrude Stein for tea.   I admire Hemingway more than any other writer.  My favorite Hemingway novel is actually ‘A Moveable Feast’ which is a memoir of sorts with admitted omissions of truth.  If you haven’t read it, go get it now, its fabulous!

As for words, I actually have quite an extensive ‘favorite words’ list.  Not for any particular reason, I just really like the abundance of words available that help to accurately describe what you are feeling.  Even words as simple as ‘allow‘ or ‘drive‘ have such a commanding meaning behind them.  If you say you are ‘driven‘ or you have the ‘drive‘ to accomplish something I feel the personal urgency to accomplish the task is really expressed.   I currently have 240 favorite words and am constantly adding more to that total.

To change the subject: INTENT.

With this web.log, I intend to read, write and use words, all of which are things that I love, in order to write reviews of novels.  These novels will be on random books that I’ve read and found inspiration from. My goal is to obtain knowledge and advice from these novels, evaluate it, condense it and send it on to you, dear reader.  So please, offer feedback, suggest novels and provide new insights.  I really hope I can capture your attention and spark your interest.

I also want to do some fun things with this blog.  I have recently moved out on my own (well by “on my own” I actually mean with two frisky felines (Princess man and Razzle) and a boy whose idea of relaxing is banging on his drum set that is in our basement…).

Anywho so I am on my own and now have a FULL kitchen and a CRAFT ROOM!! So, I will be incorporating my crafts, meals and some other fun things (like my obsession with nailpolish) into this blog along with reviews of the novels I read.

I really hope you like it.

    Thank You, for reading.
